The Legends and Myths of Briarmont

The Legends and Myths of Briarmont

Briarmont's tales get told at the places they are about, on the harbor floats and the campus walks, and each one comes with something to do. None of them has been proven. People keep the customs anyway, or skip them, or laugh at them.

  • Knock Twice: told on the harbor floats, where anyone boarding in fog knocks twice on a piling first and stays ashore if anything knocks back.
  • Last Stake: told on the main campus walk at Oakridge, where students lay a hand on an old survey stake before final examinations, seniors do it again on commencement day, and older students explain why to anyone who asks.
