Neil Ostrander is the President of Oakridge College, and new to the office. He grew up in Hartwell County and spent his working life in its forests, which makes the president's office the first job he has held with a roof over it.
He started at seventeen on a planting crew, working a hoedad up cut-over slopes in the winter rain for so much a tree. From there he went to cruising and marking timber. He walked each stand with a diameter tape and a can of paint, judged what it would yield and put a slash of blue on every tree that was to come down. In later years the county's landowners hired him to go over their ground after the cut and say whether it was coming back on its own or needed seedlings. He can tell a planted redwood from a stump sprout at a glance, and he keeps his old work boots by the door of the president's office.
Most people at Oakridge know him on paper. His signature is at the foot of every acceptance letter from the college, and his name is on its notices.
Out of character. Neil Ostrander is an NPC, and staff do not voice him in roleplay. He appears only in documents, notices and NPC notecards, such as the acceptance letter and the letters that open the two handbooks. In scenes, the Dean stands in for him.
