The Briarmont roadmap is public
Out of character. This is a post from the Briarmont team about the project itself. Nothing in it is in-world news.
The roadmap at briarmont-sl.com/roadmap lays out what we are working on and planning for the town, Oakridge College, and Munibase, the platform behind them. You can also reach it from the Township menu and the site footer.
Every quarter on the page is a target that may change with development and playtesting. Each item also carries one of five statuses:
- Live. Available to members.
- In development. Being built or tested.
- In design. Design work is underway or documented.
- Planned. Included in the plan, with details still to be worked out.
- Exploring. Under consideration, with no target quarter.
Live today
The page starts with what is already live:
- Oakridge College. The quest system is live and runs Oakridge admissions. Fall classes began August 31.
- The HUD. It shows your community standing and level. Your reputation changes with what your character does in town.
- Public safety. EMS dispatch and the public scanner are on the website. Deputies use Munibase for citations, warrants, and vehicle records.
- Rentals and RP$. The rental board handles weekly leases and short stays. Characters earn RP$ through timeclocks.
Q4 2026: Quests, parkland, and housing
- Quests and Game Days (in development). A new story questline set at Oakridge College is being prepared for play. NPC conversations will offer dialogue choices, and your decisions can advance a quest. Mustangs dice football will use the field as the game board, with games expected to run about 90 minutes. Oakridge Athletics clothing is in development too, though cheer and swim team kits will remain exclusive to their squads. Three to five short town starter quests for new characters are in design.
- New Land (in development). Hartwell State Park will span Brackenmere and Emberglow. Plans include hiking and riding trails, a swimming beach, a marina, a fishing lake, and rentable cabins and campsites. A small number of private homes will overlook the park's beach. Solarus and Briarmont will have private rental parcels. Juniper Hotel guests will book at a front desk in town and stay in private suites on separate parcels in the south. The residential parcels will rent on weekly leases paid in L$, the beach homes will rent by the week, and hotel stays will cost L$ by the night. None of the new land is open for rent yet.
- The New HUD (in design). Both HUD shapes are being redesigned, the tall rail and the wide bar, and either can shrink to a narrow strip when you want more room on your screen. Quests and the calendar will open on their own screens inside the HUD, instead of only as pop-up menus. Quests appear as a numbered list read in your own chat, with a HUD button for each one, tabs for what you have accepted and what you can pick up, and your level and experience along the bottom.
- The Town Works (in development). This phase will give the Sheriff's Department one workspace for records, citations, warrants, dispatch, and vehicle files. Fire and EMS will have a workspace of their own. Members will also be able to request events through the website, and staff will check scheduling conflicts and land impact before approval.
Q1 2027: Inventory, banking, and businesses
- Things You Carry (in design). Character inventories will let you buy, carry, use, and give items to other players. Quest items, shop stock, and evidence will use the same system. You'll have a limited number of carrying slots, with extra space in purses, backpacks, and bags. Lockers, safes, and group vaults will provide storage. Existing members will receive the first release for playtesting. Student cards, letters, and quest tokens will move into inventory, with checks to preserve items and quest progress. The rollout will run in nine stages, all listed on the page. Inventory is targeted for Q1, and its later stages continue into Q2. Cash and deposit boxes are planned once inventory is in place.
- Main Street (in design). Harborside Savings and Trust will have teller positions as roleplay jobs. You'll be able to check your RP$ balance at ATMs in town. Player businesses will have storefronts and shift pay, and groups will post openings on a jobs board. The DMV will handle plates, titles, and renewals. Paying fines and town fees in RP$ is planned, along with rewards such as event prizes and a weekly RP$ stipend for Discord boosters.
- Hartwell General (in design). Patient charts will keep a record of your character's hospital visits and treatment. A patient portal will let you read your character's chart even if you're not in the hospital group. Diagnostic equipment is planned and depends on the character health systems.
- The Town Paper (in design). Regular columns will draw on town records. In the Newsroom, you'll be able to submit a story through Discord under your character's byline. Every piece will be reviewed before publication. Photo of the Week and a gallery of member photographs are planned.
Q2 2027: Health, training, and town services
Much of Q2 builds on the inventory and hospital work planned for earlier in the year.
- After Dark (in design). An optional attachment for adult roleplay, connected to character health and pregnancy. It will not affect anyone who isn't wearing it. Interactions will ask the other wearer for permission through the HUD. Consent can be withdrawn at any time. Staff and moderators will have no bypass.
- Public Health (in design). Character illnesses will be able to spread, and outbreak events will affect a region or group at once. Masks, vaccines, and hospital treatment quests are planned, with inventory supplying the medical items.
- Certifications and Internships (planned). The fire department, the hospital, and the Sheriff's Department will offer guest courses at Oakridge. Groups will issue in-world credentials in subjects such as first aid and evidence handling. Relevant certifications will lead into internships with school credit and a paid stipend.
- On the Air (in design). Programming on KBRM 91.3, The Current, will start with talk and news. Music is still undecided because of licensing costs. On the Newsbreak, a synthetic announcer will read the weekly column. The station will identify the voice as synthetic. Certified DJs will be able to broadcast from a browser and book time through the existing stream schedule.
- Locks and Alarms (planned). Homes and businesses will be able to use alarms connected to dispatch. A triggered alarm will alert dispatch and open an incident, and whether a deputy responds depends on who is on duty. The system will record activations for use in investigations.
Later
Four ideas sit under Later, marked Exploring: website sign-in with a Munibase or Discord account, a town feed of member photos and posts, a community calendar, and AI professors for courses without a player instructor. They are under consideration and have no committed quarter.
