Doing quests
Quests are guided threads. Some are starter paths for newcomers, others are ongoing storylines run by the community. They are built to be the fastest way to meet people and find your footing, and the Oakridge admissions walk is the first one open to everyone.

Note. Quests are played in the world. The ones your character qualifies for appear in the HUD's activity tracker, the ! badge, under Available, and that is where you accept one. Everything after that happens out in the town.
How a quest reaches you
A quest becomes available when your character qualifies for it. What you qualify for depends on things like the groups you are in, whether you are on the student or civic path, your standing, and which quests you have already done.
Anything you qualify for is listed in the activity tracker under Available, where you can read what is on offer and accept it. Some quests skip the asking: they start themselves when you cross their trigger and send you a notice.
That is also why two people standing next to each other can have different quests available. It is not a bug.
How a quest moves
By doing something in the world. A task tells you to go somewhere or touch something, and it fires when you do:
- Touch it. Click the object the quest points you at, and the quest advances.
- Walk into it. Some tasks fire simply because you arrived. Cross the threshold and it moves.
- Join a group. A few tasks complete when you join the relevant community group.
Accepting a quest happens on the tracker; playing one does not. The HUD tells you where you are; the world is where you play it.
If you get stuck
Open the activity tracker, the ! badge, and read the current objective again. You can reveal another hint from the same panel, and you can abandon a quest and pick it up later.
If a task will not fire, the usual cause is standing in roughly the right place rather than the exact one, or having already passed that step. A quest that seems to want another player usually does, so the answer is often Discord rather than the HUD.
