Caroline Ruth Ashton, born Caroline Ruth Bell in 1946, married Martin Avery Ashton and became the mother of the family's present generation. She and Martin had three children: Simone, who married into the Mitchell name; Clarence Ashton II, who would serve Briarmont as mayor; and Joseph.
Through her marriage, Caroline joined one of the town's founding families at the point where the older Ashton branches had already thinned, and it was her children who carried the name forward into the town's living memory. By the town's record she is still living.
