The Environmental and Ecological Science program is the signature program of Oakridge College — the direct descendant of the 1918 Oakridge Institute of Forestry and Land Sciences, and home of the botanical flagship laboratory. It is designed for students who want a rigorous foundation in forestry, ecology, restoration, and land stewardship.
The program combines a progressive earth science sequence with biology and physics, and puts students outdoors early and often: field surveys, restoration plots, and the working forest itself are part of the curriculum. The Geology concentration turns toward terrain, soils, and the deep-time history of the land.
Together, these requirements are intended to prepare students for ranger, conservation, surveying, and land-management work, and continued study in the environmental sciences — the college's oldest and proudest pathway.

Bachelor — 120 credits
A completed Associate in Environmental and Ecological Science transfers in full; bachelor candidates complete the associate coursework plus:
- Advanced → Expert Earth Science: 20 credits
- Field research & restoration coursework: 20 credits
- Chemistry or Mathematics: 10 credits
- Free Elective: 10 credits
Concentrations
Geology — a focus track on terrain, soils, and deep-time land history. Declared after entering the major; no separate application.
Graduation Requirements
- Completion of at least 60 credit hours (Associate) or 120 credit hours (Bachelor)
- Successful completion of all required departmental coursework
- Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0
- A grade of C or higher in all core program requirements
- Completion of a capstone field-research or restoration project
