Johnathan was the youngest of Ward and Eleanor Ashton's three children, born in Briarmont in 1936, thirteen years before the family left the town. He was still a child when his father gave the Ashton Residence to Oakridge College in 1948 and when the household moved to Oregon the following year — young enough that most of his life was lived not in the California town his family had helped run for generations, but in the new state they resettled in.
He grew up and grew old in Oregon and died in Portland in 2008. Like his brother Shaun, he left no marriage or children in the record; the youngest of the last Briarmont Ashtons closed out his branch of the household in the Pacific Northwest.
